FORSKINGSINTERESSE:
- Sensorisk prosessering, eksogen og endogen sensorisk informasjon, prosessering i sentralnervesystemet (CNS) i relasjon til og av betydning for kvantitative og kvalitative endringar i søvn-vaken stadia.
- Kjemisk signaloverføring/nevrotransmittorfrisetting/metabolittfrisetting mellom/frå nerveceller i aktuelle CNS-avsnitt målt med mikrodialyse, som kan ha relevans for kvantitative og kvalitative endringar i søvn-vaken stadia. Særleg serotonin (5-HT), noradrenalin (NA), adenosin og GABA og særleg serotonin relatert til mental helse generelt og depressive lidingar spesielt.
- Nevronale nettverksmodellar der dette kan ha relevans for teoretisk hypotesedanning og testing ad. anatomisk strukturelle, fysiske og kjemiske samspelmekanismar og intracellulære nettverksmekanismar som kan ha relevans for kvantitative og kvalitative endringar i søvn-vaken stadia samt relasjonar til depresjonstilstandar.
- Målemetodar for endringar i bestemte second og third messenger protein i aktuelle CNS avsnitt, som kan ha relevans for kvantitative og kvalitative endringar i søvn-vaken stadia.
- Genekspresjon/uttrykking av aktuelle reseptorar som kan ha relevans for kvantitative og kvalitative endringar i søvn-vaken stadia og endringar ved depresjonstilstandar. Studiar av transgene dyr, knock-out+ gen dyr (spesielt inducible knock-outs) samt dyremodellar for bestemte søvnendringar og depresjon.
- Endring i gen- og protein utrykk etter bestemte søvnendringar som ved søvnmangel (søvndeprivasjon) og søvnforskyvning (som skiftarbeid og jet-lag).
- Endring i gen- og protein utrykk etter /under ulike cellulært stressende situasjoner både fysisk og psykisk stress (MR-rutine dvs. sterkt megnetfelt samt RF-bølger og dykk-/hyperbar eksponering).

HPLC-metodikk - Serotonin (5-HT) assay med microbor-kolonne (høgsensitivt system, microbore high performance liquid chromatography) for deteksjon låge ekstracellulære 5-HT nivå med deteksjonsgrense rundt 0.5 fmol/10 ml. Har nytta to elektokjemiske detektorar for betre 5-HT topp identifikasjon. Karbon-glas elektrodar med potensial sett til 550 mV og 475 mV mot ein Ag/Ag/Cl referanse elektrode, slik er observert topp for 5-HT maksimal for høgste potensial og halv-maksimal ved lågaste potensial, slik gjev to detektorar eit forholdstal mellom to topphøgder som er unikt for serotonin og som er eit tilleggskriterium for topp identifikasjon. Identifikasjon og kvantifisering av 5-HT i prøver er gjeve utifrå samanlikning med retensjonstid og topphøgd av ein 10 fmol 5-HT standard. Også adenosin assay med microbor kolonne og UV-deteksjon samt oppsett og utprøving av GABA assay.
Histologiske teknikkar - frysemikrotom snitt, mikroskopisk inspeksjon, rottehjerne samt formalinperfusering, fiksering, cryostatbruk og cresyl fiolett farging, NADPH-diaphorase metode (reduserande kofaktor nikotinamid adenin dinukleotid fosfat som konverterer tetrazolium farge til synleg formazan reaksjons produkt) for farging av bestemte cholinerge celler i kattehjerne, teknikk som gjev eit Golgi-liknande utrykk i celler som inneheld dette enzymet.
Immunohistokjemi - antrograd (biotinylert dextran) og retrograd markør (coleratoxin B subeining) identifikasjon med immunohistokjemisk teknikk. 5-HT transporter og c-fos protein (tidlig aktivt gen produkt) med immunohistokjemisk teknikk også med fluoriserande antistoff i rottehjerne
